Local regulations

Since Brexit (January 2021), the UK has transposed the GDPR into national law as the UK GDPR, complemented by the Data Protection Act 2018. The supervisory authority is the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office), based in Wilmslow. QronoPlay applies the same standards as for the EU market: explicit consent, processing register, and data subject rights.

Prize promotions in the UK are governed by the Gambling Act 2005 and the Gambling Commission. Free marketing promotions (free prize draws, instant wins without purchase obligation) are not considered gambling and do not require a licence, provided there is a free route of entry ("no purchase necessary"). UK VAT (20% standard rate) may apply depending on the place of supply; UK businesses with a valid VAT number can use the reverse charge for intra-EU digital services.

Frequently asked questions

Is QronoPlay compliant with the UK GDPR?

Yes. QronoPlay applies UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 standards. The ICO is the competent supervisory authority. Privacy notices can be adapted in British English with references to the ICO and UK GDPR data subject rights.

Do I need a Gambling Commission licence?

No, not for free marketing promotions. The Gambling Commission distinguishes prize promotions (no licence required if there is a free route of entry) from regulated gambling. QronoPlay runs only prize promotion formats: instant win, prize draw, quiz with "no purchase necessary".

Can I use QronoPlay in a London pub?

QronoPlay hosts data in France (EU), which remains compliant with UK GDPR thanks to the adequacy regulations mutually recognised between the EU and the UK since 2021. An ICO-compliant data transfer agreement (DTA) can be provided on request.
